My Creamy Cauliflower Chocolate Milkshake

Let me just preface this entire blog post, because I can already hear the questions now, with the fact that I promise you simply cannot taste the cauliflower. Nope, all you can taste is the sweet, chocolatey goodness of cacao and hints of cinnamon and coconut. I often make this milkshake as a meal replacement when I decide I’m too lazy to cook, and since I’m an adult, I can have chocolate for dinner :) The absolute best part of veggie based smoothies is that you’re getting an entire serving of vegetables without even realizing it. Specifically, in this recipe, the frozen cauliflower adds a thick and creamy texture to the milkshake with no flavor in the same way ice does. Plus, it’s loaded with vitamins especially C and K and is a detox powerhouse!

Let’s talk smoothies for a second. My entire smoothie game changed when I got wind of the brilliant “Fab Four” formula that nutritionist Kelly LeVeque created. The “Fab Four” is made up of protein + fat + fiber + greens. Having these four components in every smoothie ensures that you’re getting all the right nutrients to nourish your body, keep you full, and balance your blood sugar. Unlike Kelly’s, typical smoothies can be loaded with fructose aka sugar in the form of honey, dates, and fruit. This has a huge impact on your blood sugar causing your insulin to spike and then crash leaving you hungry almost immediately after along with a multitude of other problems. Since I starting making sure all my smoothies contained the “Fab Four”, I’ve been feeling amazing and my energy is way more sustained throughout the day.

Here is how you make my delicious Creamy Cauliflower Chocolate Milkshake:

Ingredients:

1.5 cup of almond milk

1 serving of chocolate protein powder

1 tsp of cinnamon

2 tbsp of cacao nibs

1 tbsp of cacao powder

1 cup of frozen cauliflower

2 tbsp of flaxseed meal or chia seeds (for fiber)

2 tbsp of coconut butter or any other nut butter (for healthy fats)

½ tsp of Himalayan salt

¼ of a frozen banana (or can leave out for ultimate low sugar)

Blend everything up and top with coconut shreds and goji berries, or whatever you like. Enjoy!
